Honeywell’s Genetron Performax® LT Approved By Emerson Climate Technologies For Use With Copeland Scroll Compressors

BRUSSELS, Belgium, March 20, 2013 — Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that its Genetron Performax® LT (R-407F) refrigerant has been approved by Emerson Climate Technologies for use in its Copeland Scroll compressors (ZB & ZF Range) for low and medium-temperature refrigeration applications. Emerson has also qualified Performax LT for use with their latest range of Copeland Stream compressors.

Copeland brand compressors are some of the most widely used in supermarket refrigeration, and approval from Emerson demonstrates Performax LT’s performance as a superior R-22 and R-404A retrofit solution.

“Supermarkets invest in high-quality compressors like Emerson’s so their chillers and freezers can maintain a consistent temperature. Refrigeration managers want to use a cost-effective and energy-efficient refrigerant in their compressors,” said Robert Kebby, marketing manager for the refrigerants business of Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. “Genetron Performax® LT preserves superheat more effectively than R-407A, R-427A, MO-99 and R-422B. Preserving superheat prevents floodback issues, which protects compressors and extends their life.”

Performax LT refrigerant is specifically designed to replace R-22, an ozone-depleting hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) that is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol. It can be utilized in R-22 refrigeration retrofits, as well as in new supermarket installations. Performax LT provides similar performance to R-22 in refrigeration, but requires fewer equipment modifications, has lower global warming potential (GWP), and offers improved capacity and efficiency versus most popular low and medium-temperature refrigerants. The combination of these factors provides for the lowest total CO2 footprint with a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant. Performax LT can also be used as an R-404A medium and low temperature retrofit refrigerant, providing similar/better capacity and improved efficiency, while cutting GWP by more than 50 percent.

Honeywell’s Fluorine Products business is a leader in the manufacture and supply of zero ozone-depleting refrigerants used by top air-conditioning and refrigeration makers worldwide and blowing agents for energy-efficient foam insulation, as well as hydrofluoric acid and precursors for nuclear fuel.
