Honeywell Launches Digital Tools To Help Transition To F-Gas Regulation Compliant Refrigerants

iPhone, iPad and Android apps, along with simulation software, will help contractors and engineers make more informed retrofit decisions

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., Feb. 19, 2015 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the launch of several new online and offline tools to help refrigeration and air conditioning professionals transition away from high global warming potential refrigerants. Industry data show that replacing high global warming potential refrigerants with their more advanced F-gas compliant alternatives can in some applications lead to energy savings between 8 and 15 percent, 37 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and 10 percent savings on operating cost. Having the right data available when making refrigerant decisions can help save engineering time. Honeywell created new mobile applications for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) mechanics and field technicians to provide pressure-temperature calculations and refrigerant data that helps calculate superheat and sub cooling average values to accurately set system controls. The apps are downloadable from iTunes and Google Play. In addition, Honeywell has made its popular refrigeration simulation software, Genetron Properties Suite, or Genepro, available for download in English, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese from the website. The software allows HVAC contractors and refrigeration engineers to simulate a refrigeration system, compare the performance of multiple refrigerants, and determine the correct line sizing, all of which helps choose an optimal refrigerant. Results from the software can be exported and shared. The software now also includes data for the latest Solstice low-global-warming potential refrigerants – Solstice N13 and Solstice N40. “The European Union’s F-gas regulation limits the amount of hydrofluorocarbons that can be sold in the EU beginning in 2015, and bans the use of certain F-gases because of their global warming potentials,” said Patrick Amrhein, marketing director of Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. “Honeywell’s apps and software provide customers with the information they need to quickly and effectively transition to refrigerants that comply with the F-gas regulation.” Honeywell Fluorine Products is a world leader in the development and manufacture of refrigerants that are sold under the Genetron® and Solstice® brand names for a range of applications, including building and mobile air conditioning as well as refrigeration applications.
