Honeywell’s Genetron Performax® LT Is Refrigerant Of Choice For Up-Coming Supermarkets

Stores in the U.S. and Europe to use the R-407F refrigerant in new and retrofit refrigeration applications

BRUSSELS, Belgium, May XX, 2011 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that its high-efficiency supermarket refrigerant launched last year has been adopted by one of the fastest-growing retail chains in the U.S.
Sprouts Farmers Markets will use Genetron Performax® LT (R-407F) refrigerant is it in all new and retrofit refrigeration applications at its stores.

Genetron Performax® LT is a non-flammable blend of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) specifically designed to replace R-22, R-404A and R-407A. Performax LT is also the best performing, lowest-global-warming-potential refrigerant for new supermarket installations with improved energy efficiency versus other HFCs. It is a better alternative to R-404A in both low- and medium-temperature for supermarket applications since it has a higher capacity and efficiency. Converting existing R-404A supermarket systems to Performax LT will result in significant reduction of their carbon foot-print and power consumption. CO2 emissions can be reduced by more than 30%.
“We carefully analyzed the characteristics of both R-407F and R-407A,” says Frank Davis, Refrigeration Energy manager at Sprouts Farmers Market in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. “We found that Honeywell’s R-407F outperformed R-407A in performance efficiency and it has a lower global warming potential.
“We have been using Performax LT in retrofits, and it is helping us to achieve our supermarket’s energy efficiency goals. We are seeking every possible way to lower the impact of our stores on the environment, and this refrigerant is perfect for our new store model as well.” Sprouts Farmers Market, founded in 2002, specializes in farm fresh produce, purchased from local growers when possible.
Paul Sanders, commercial director for Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India says trials at various customers have proven that real-life systems running with Performax LT can consume much less power than systems running with alternative refrigerants. “The figure is close to 15% when we compare it with R-404A,” he says.
“Performax LT has delivered outstanding refrigerant performance for Sprouts in several existing stores. Honeywell will work closely with them over the next several years to ensure Performax LT continues to help them achieve their refrigeration objectives, and we confidently expect to be able to achieve similar results with other customers,” Sanders continued. “Honeywell Fluorine Products has operations around the world and, wherever we are, supermarkets are looking to cut their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint. We think Performax LT can play an important role in helping them meet those important objectives.”
