Honeywell Genetron® Refrigerants Launches System Simulation Software

New Program Allows for Highly Detailed Refrigerant Comparison

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., Apr. 16, 2012 — Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the launch of Genetron® Properties, a software program that eliminates the guesswork involved in selecting a new refrigerant, by allowing refrigeration engineers and contractors to run simulations based on actual system data. Genetron Properties runs property calculations of refrigerants, conducts thermodynamic evaluations of air conditioning and refrigeration cycles, and provides a first principle thermodynamic comparison of new alternative refrigerants for retrofit applications or new system designs. The software is available on www.honeywell-refrigerants.com.

“Honeywell‟s new software reduces the decision time to select a new refrigerant from weeks or months to just a few hours,” said Ron Vogl, technical marketing manager, Honeywell Fluorine Products. “This new version of our system simulation software has the potential to save refrigeration engineers and contractors time and money by allowing them to see exactly how a refrigerant will perform in a particular system configuration, simply by entering their system data and pressing „solve‟.”

The software models systems from simplified basic cycles to large, complex refrigeration systems. The results can be exported to Microsoft Excel, where the data can be manipulated in a variety of ways. The software also creates typical Mollier diagrams (Pressure-Enthalpy, Temperature-Entropy). “The more data you include, the better your results,” continued Vogl. A comprehensive refrigerant pipe sizing tool is also included in the program.

Honeywell’s Fluorine Products business is a leader in the manufacture and supply of zero ozone-depleting refrigerants used by top air-conditioning and refrigeration makers worldwide, and blowing agents for energy-efficient foam insulation, as well as hydrofluoric acid and precursors for nuclear fuel.
