PHILIP DOYLE MANUFACTURING CHOOSES HONEYWELL’S SOLSTICE N15 TO COOL HEAVY DUTY OVERHEAD CRANE SYSTEMS

Environmentally-preferable, non-flammable solution to assist Canadian company in meeting regulations2

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, October 8, 2020 – Honeywell today announced that Philip Doyle Manufacturing, a Canadian-based producer of custom air conditioning systems for heavy duty overhead cranes and other severe duty air conditioning products, has adopted Solstice® N15 (R-515B) refrigerant for use in strenuous industrial applications.

Solstice N15 is a non-flammable, low-global-warming-potential (LGWP) replacement refrigerant for R-134a and R-124 in chillers and heat pumps. It was selected by Philip Doyle to meet global phasedown regulations of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and stringent customer requirements, including heavy equipment operators who toil in sweltering temperatures in enclosed crane cabins and require small-format climate control systems to stay cool.

“Our customers were seeking a refrigerant solution that is safe, suitable for temperatures that can climb up to 90 degrees Celsius in crane cabins and minimizes impact on the environment,” said Basil Mendonca, project manager, Philip Doyle Manufacturing. “Honeywell’s Solstice N15 is not only non-flammable and highly efficient, it handles our high-temperature severe duty A/C needs in the toughest industrial applications.”

With a GWP of 292, Solstice N15 is 80 percent lower than R-134a and 50 percent lower than R-124, Solstice N15 ensures long-term compliance with EU regulations and directives like F-Gas, EcoDesign and EU’s Energy Performance of Building Directives or EPBD. The refrigerant also contributes to achieving U.S. building certifications, including LEED and BREEAM.

“Solstice N15 was specifically innovated and brought to market with component suppliers to provide chiller and heat pump manufacturers with a long-term solution that can address any installation requirement with the same chiller design,” said Chris LaPietra, vice president and general manager, Honeywell Stationary Refrigerants. “We are proud to work with Philip Doyle for the most extreme industrial applications, and to provide a solution that can keep overhead crane operators cool for decades to come.”

As a non-flammable R-134a replacement, Solstice N15 can be used immediately by chiller and heat pump manufacturers where safety standards and buildings codes limit the use of A2L and A3 refrigerants. Its similar product design to Solstice ze (R-1234ze) will provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a long-term solution that is flexible for both A1 and A2L refrigerants.

Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Philip Doyle Manufacturing specializes in the custom design and fabrication of industrial & severe duty cooling systems and engineered controlled environments.

Honeywell is a world leader in the development, manufacturing and supply of refrigerants sold worldwide under the Solstice and Genetron® brands for a wide range of applications, including refrigeration, building and automobile air conditioning. Honeywell and its suppliers have completed a $900 million investment program in R&D and new capacity based on Honeywell’s hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) technology.
