Honeywell Launches Authorised Dealers Program To Provide Trusted Sources Of F-Gas Compliant Refrigerants In Europe

Contacts:  Europe Sabine Knaak +49 174-217-7336 sabine.knaak@honeywell.com Program ensures end-users know where to find and purchase Honeywell refrigerants BRUSSELS, April 25, 2016—Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today launched its Honeywell Authorised Dealers program to help purchasers ensure they are buying refrigerants that comply with the European Union’s F-gas regulation, which is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions related to refrigerants and other materials. “This program is part of Honeywell’s ongoing efforts to help customers ensure they are using refrigerants and other materials that comply with this new regulation,” said Dr. Patrick Amrhein, marketing director for Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. “By buying from a Honeywell Authorised Dealer, customers can avoid putting their businesses at legal risk of violating the regulation by using an illegal refrigerant. Honeywell is continuing to build awareness of the risks and legal consequences of using illegally imported refrigerants, and is working closely with EU authorities to actively prevent illegal imports to the EU market.” Purchasers of illegally imported refrigerants can face severe fines, audits or even prosecution from EU authorities. The full list of Authorised Dealers selling Honeywell F-gas regulation-compliant refrigerants can be found at www.honeywell-refrigerants.com/europe/authoriseddealers/. Unlawful distribution of F-gas refrigerants can be reported to the European Commission at ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/customs/customs_controls/counterfeit_piracy/index_en.htm. The F-gas regulation is part of broader efforts by the EU to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Among other measures, such as leak detection, containment and control, the landmark regulation limits the amount of hydrofluorcarbon (HFC) refrigerants, which have high global warming potential (GWP), that can be placed in the EU market from 2015 onwards. By 2030, the F-gas regulation aims at cutting the EU’s F-gas emissions by two-thirds compared with 2015 levels. Honeywell estimates that the amount of illegally imported materials into the EU in 2015 accounts for more than 10 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. This is equal to adding more than 5 million cars on European roads. Greenhouse gas emissions are being reduced every day as more companies utilize Honeywell Solstice® materials. Using Solstice products has helped avoid the release of over 23 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere to date. Replacement of HFCs and HCFCs with Solstice products throughout 2016 will save the carbon dioxide equivalent of removing more than 7.5 million cars from the road — more than half of the number of cars registered in Western Europe last year.
