Honeywell And Tesco Awarded Best Retail Project Of The Year For Cooling Innovation

Contact: Jennifer Kramer 973-441-0023 jennifer.kramer@honeywell.com London, October 11, 2017— Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that a supermarket refrigeration project based on its Solstice® N40 refrigerant has been recognized as the year’s best retail project at the RAC Cooling Industry Awards. The awards recognize the leading innovations and environmental successes in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry across several categories. Honeywell and Tesco were awarded for a joint project converting more than 1,200 stores across the United Kingdom to Honeywell’s Solstice N40 (R-448A) refrigerant to meet Tesco’s carbon reduction commitments. The switch to Solstice N40 is expected to lead to a 40 percent reduction in refrigerant emissions in the 1,200 Tesco stores covered. The jury highlighted the complexity of the project, which required close coordination and planning throughout the supply chain. “The Retail Project of the Year award demonstrates Honeywell’s ability to support our customers’ aggressive environmental and energy efficiency goals. We have proven we can execute large and complex projects with no interruption to supermarket operations,” said Julien Soulet, managing director for Honeywell Fluorine Products in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. The success of the Tesco conversion project required close collaboration between Honeywell and its partners. A-Gas, a major distributor of Honeywell refrigerants for the U.K., provided a reclaim and testing facility. Climate Center provided national delivery and collection of new and reclaimed refrigerants, while Carter Synergy and Space Engineering provided the expertise for the actual conversions. These partners will continue to work with Honeywell and Tesco throughout the duration of the project. Solstice N40 is the supermarket industry’s most commonly used, lowest-GWP, nonflammable refrigerant to replace R-404A, and can be used in new installations as well as in installed systems that currently use high-global warming refrigerants like R-404A, R-507 and interim blends. Global adoption of Solstice products has resulted in the reduction of more than 47 million metric tons of greenhouse gases to date, the equivalent of eliminating emissions from 10 million vehicles. Honeywell estimates that increasing global adoption of Solstice products can reduce emissions by the equivalent of 475 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2025—or the impact of removing 100 million cars from the road for one year.
